IS YOUR PLUMBING PET-FRIENDLY?
Sure, that may sound far out, but what you don’t realize is that you should actually be taking steps to pet-proof your plumbing. As a Houston homeowner, you want to be able to take the best care of your household as possible, plumbing included.
However, as a pet owner, you also want to ensure that your furbaby is looked after and that they cannot gain access to cause damage to any components of your plumbing system. In this article, we hope to help you be able to accomplish both.
PLUMBERS WHO CARE
It makes a real difference when you partner with a genuine industry expert plumber who cares, about you, your plumbing and your pets! So what are a few ways you should ensure that your plumbing is not going to harm your pets and vice versa?
- Did you know that approximately 70 percent of American households have some type of pet? And many of these pets are the type that will need bathing by you. That means sinks and tubs that are at risk of having fur and even feathers going down the drain. Make it a point to have a drain catch in place and clean the area out thoroughly before letting the sink drain without that catch in place.
- Pets can go through water quickly, especially during warmer summer months. Yet, even your HVAC system can make conditions arid in the winter causing your pets to need lots of hydration. Make it a point to keep their water bowl filled, and keep that toilet lid down. Unfortunately, dogs are notorious for drinking from the toilet bowl, if given the opportunity. This can make them sick, as well as drain your bowl. Keep that lid down at all times to prevent this from happening.
- The pipes under the sink are often exposed. This is a bad idea for both pets and children. Reduce the risk of scalding by keeping those pipes covered and insulated.
